Description:
The 170 series crown started production in 1999 with 2003 models being the latest importable in this series. Being one of Toyota's top luxury models these cars were anything but cheap when new, and came in both sports and luxury versions to cater to different tastes.
The Crown came in three major variants which can be imported:
The Crown Athlete V (JZS171 chassis), which was the 2.5L turbo sports version. Although all three share a very similar chassis and a lot of components, the Athlete has different headlights, wider tail lights which run across the boot lid and slightly different body panels.
The Crown Estate Athlete V (JZS171W chassis), being the station wagon version of the Crown Athlete V. This is the JZS171W chassis type.
The Crown Majesta (UZS171 airbag suspension and UZS175 normal suspension chassis). This is the more luxurious 4.0L V8 version with narrow, taller tail lights, different headlights (with a small strip of orange along the bottom), different grille and other minor aesthetic differences.
Both the 2.5L turbo and 4.0L V8 have the Japanese maximum limit of 280kW, the 2.5L turbo engine is the 1JZ-GTE with VVT-i as found in the Chaser, Mark II and Soarer so there is plenty of parts availability and aftermarket support, and is mated to a 4 speed tiptronic transmission. The 4.0L V8 is the 32-valve 1UZ-FE as found in the Lexus LS400, Soarer and other Toyotas so again this is a well known and well supported engine, mated to a 5 speed auto. |
