FiveM - Multiplayer, the way it should be: Download latest version here: http://fivem.net/
FiveM is a planned multiplayer modification for Grand Theft Auto V which, much in the lines of popular modifications in the past, offers an advanced multiplayer environment for people to play on dedicated servers with user-made game modes. It builds on the solid multiplayer framework set by the Rockstar Studios themselves as part of the RAGE engine, which has gone through rigorous testing since its first release in 2008, adding high-level customizability features.
An initial release is expected within 2 months of the release of the Windows version of GTA V itself, which will feature all the essential features one will need, such as the lovely features listed below.
Unlike the primary offering for multiplayer included with GTA V, FiveM relies on dedicated servers for connecting players to one another. This eliminates any connection issues that can, will and have occurred in the past trying to connect a session filled with players to one another.
FiveM also distinguishes itself from GTA:Online by allowing not only custom levels consisting of placed objectives around the existing map, but also allowing large-scale scripting of game modes, extension scripts and nearly anything imaginable. And, as the game itself gets researched further and further, the possibilities will only grow.
However, modifications aren't limited to custom scripts and custom levels - once art asset export tools release, FiveM will be able to stream your content dynamically to players on your server. Unlike some modifications in the past and present, these streaming assets will load only when required, allowing players to play nearly instantly without having to await large downloads. Even more so, as the streaming system is inherited from the game itself, it supports anything the game does!
Code-based resources will be able to be created using well-known languages and tools - dynamic and simple scripting with Lua or advanced and tool-assisted programming with any primary .NET language (such as C#). It's your choice! All environments interoperate with one another freely, and usable and clean APIs are offered for both languages. In fact, you might already be familiar with the calls in either API used from earlier GTA scripting toolsets.
Initial releases will have a player cap equal to the GTA: Online cap - 32 players; as more optimizations are made to the modified game engine these limits will be expanded eventually. One also does not have to worry about feeling alone, as outside of your 30+ opponents, partners or co-conspirators, the world will also be filled with the AI vehicles, pedestrians and perhaps even animals you know and love from classical GTA!
FiveM also builds on years of experience maintaining a popular 'game enhancement' project for a popular first-person shooter game series, namely the infamous 'alterIWnet' and 'fourDeltaOne' projects. People familiar with these modifications will also know of a varied set of anti-cheating measures which will most likely get rid of a higher percentage of cheaters than Rockstar will in the game itself on PC. :-)
